QN08 Research into Food Security of Vulnerable Households in Flood Season in Quy Nhon

Implemented by:

Youth of Finance, Banking and Business Administration Faculty, Quy Nhon University

Purpose:

To support farmers around the urban area in finding solutions to food shortages by analysis of adaptive models of growing crops in the flood season.  This is a practical research project to be used for policy advocacy with city authorities.

Summary:

The project collects seeds for experimentation, experiments with cultivation, and selects the two to five most effective seeds for application in local flood conditions, depending on the soil, weather and flood conditions.  The project works at several pilot areas around Quy Nhon city.  An example seed is ‘Luc Binh’ or ‘water-fern’ which is able to grow easily in floating boxes during flood season and can be harvested in 2 to 3 days.  Successful methodologies are developed and shared with other farmers to improve the food resources available in the flood season.
